In this Intern Review, we hear from Gage Hubby about what it's like working at Ingalls and what's next in his cybersecurity career journey.
While working as a SOC Analyst during this internship, I have learned the daily procedures of handling Phishing Email Help (PEH) tickets, the process of analyzing network and/or Windows event logs for malicious activity, and how these threats are managed on a daily basis.
Some of the most interesting techniques I have seen are various threat actor attempts to disguise themselves as employees or companies as a form of social engineering, in order to trick an unsuspecting worker into giving private information.
This internship here at Ingalls Information Security has painted a clear picture for me of what I will be doing in the Cybersecurity field, as well as what I need to do in order to succeed in terms of achieving both personal and a company's goals. This internship has also affirmed that I have made the correct career choice.
My personal favorite resource is The Cyberwire. The Cyberwire is a website that hosts both great news articles and podcast episodes to help me keep up to date with the news in the Cybersecurity field. Another great resource is Krebs on Security, which also offers great blog posts that helped me gain more knowledge of the field.
I am in my final year of college for my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at Louisiana State University Alexandria Online. I will be graduating this year in December. Until then, I will continue to work on getting that degree. I will also be planning to attempt to obtain a CompTIA Security+ certification during that time and will work to get more Cybersecurity certifications afterward.
To achieve a work/school/life balance, I like to dedicate entire days for either work, school, or personal days off. On days off, I like to play single-player games and watch a variety of shows of both fiction and nonfiction.
